Police Arrest Suspect After Late-Night Hit-and-Run in Downtown Owen Sound Sends Pedestrian to London Hospital
Owen Sound police are investigating a late-night hit-and-run that sent a pedestrian to a trauma hospital with serious injuries. A suspect who was driving without a license was arrested shortly after.
Owen Sound Police Service has arrested and charged a city man with no driver’s license after a hit-and-run downtown last night that left a pedestrian in a London hospital with serious injuries.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on June 29, police and paramedics were dispatched to a fail-to-remain collision where a pedestrian was struck near the intersection of 1st Avenue West and 11th Street West.
A resident of the neighbourhood told Owen Sound Current they heard people yelling shortly before first responders arrived, and that it sounded like they were arguing or fighting.
That witness saw a vehicle quickly leave the scene, turning left out of the inner harbour parking lot and fleeing at a high rate of speed in the direction of 10th St. Soon after, they say, a local security service arrived, followed by Owen Sound Police and Grey County paramedics.
According to police, the pedestrian was rushed from the scene to the Owen Sound Brightshores hospital and soon airlifted to Victoria Hospital in London. They remain in the hospital with serious injuries and are listed in stable condition.
OSPS say they located the suspect vehicle and driver at 11:35 p.m. and took a 41-year-old man from Owen Sound into custody.
The unnamed man is charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm, failing to stop at an accident involving bodily harm, failure to comply, and driving without a license.
Police are actively investigating and ask that anyone with information — no matter how minor it may seem — contact Police Constable Curtis Gloade at 519-376-1234 ext. 1198 or cgloade@owensoundpolice.com.
