Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck By Pickup Truck At East-Side Intersection
Owen Sound Police have confirmed a woman died after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing the intersection at 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East on February 17. Police are investigating.
A woman has died following a collision Tuesday evening at the intersection of 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East, Owen Sound Police have confirmed.
In a release issued February 19, police said officers responded at approximately 8 p.m. on February 17 to reports of a serious collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian.
According to investigators, the pickup truck was travelling eastbound on 10th Street East and was turning northbound onto 16th Avenue East when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway.
The woman was transported to a London-area trauma centre, where she later died from her injuries.
Police say the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Members of the Owen Sound Police Service Collision Investigation Unit and Forensic Services Branch attended the scene, along with the Ontario Provincial Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
As with all fatal collisions, investigators are examining all potential contributing factors, including vehicle movement, pedestrian movement, and roadway conditions.
The intersection was closed for several hours while officers examined the scene and reopened at approximately 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said witnesses remained at the scene and have been interviewed. Investigators are continuing to ask anyone with additional information — including cell phone, dash camera, or surveillance footage — to contact Detective Sergeant Josh Gurney at 519-376-1234 ext. 1174.
Out of respect for the family, police have not released the identity of the deceased. The investigation remains ongoing.
