Owen Sound Police Seize $110,000 in Drugs After Downtown Search Warrant
Owen Sound Police say they seized roughly $110,000 in fentanyl, cocaine and meth after a July 1 search warrant at a downtown residence. Charges expected soon.
Owen Sound Police say they seized a large quantity of illicit drugs and cash following a search warrant executed at a residence in the River District (downtown) on July 1, amid what the service describes as a recent spike in overdose calls.
According to a July 2 release, investigators with the Criminal Investigations Branch executed a warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a residence in the 900 block of 2nd Avenue East.
Police say a uniformed officer first observed a large quantity of drugs in the apartment while responding to a call to remove unwanted persons from the premises.
Police report seizing 214 grams of fentanyl, 112 grams of cocaine, and 52 grams of crystal methamphetamine, along with roughly $1,200 in cash described as proceeds of crime.
The service estimates the street value of the drugs at approximately $110,000, and says the seized fentanyl alone equates to some 2,140 individual sales.
The service tied the seizure to a broader concern, saying emergency services in the city have responded to a “significant increase” in overdose-related calls in recent days. Police say they hope the seizure, combined with ongoing enforcement, will help disrupt the local drug supply and prevent further overdoses.
No charges have been laid yet. Police say they anticipate charges in the near future and will issue a supplemental release.
Anyone with information about drug trafficking or other criminal activity is asked to contact the Owen Sound Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
