The Owen Sound Little Theatre is pleased to announce that Gregory Nyenhuis is the recipient of this year’s David Leslie Award.
Established in 2011, the David Leslie Award honours the memory and legacy of David Leslie, a gifted actor, director, and dedicated member of the Owen Sound Little Theatre. It is presented annually to a graduating student pursuing post-secondary education in theatre arts, providing financial assistance to support their continued studies.
David Leslie was a loyal mainstay of Owen Sound Little Theatre for many years, contributing to many productions including Oliver, I Never Sang for My Father, The Runner Stumbles, and Bethune. His talent, professionalism, and generosity left a lasting impact on the organization and the many people who had the privilege of working alongside him.
This year’s recipient, Gregory Nyenhuis, has demonstrated exceptional dedication, creativity, and passion for theatre throughout his high school years at St. Mary’s and has participated in PUFFS (2026), The Sound of Music (2025) and Arrivals and Departures (2024) to name a few.
His commitment to the performing arts, both on and off the stage, has distinguished him as a promising young artist. Gregory plans to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies at Guelph University in the fall, where he will continue to develop his skills and contribute to the future of Canadian theatre.
The Owen Sound Little Theatre congratulates Gregory on this well-deserved achievement and wishes him every success as he begins the next chapter of his theatrical journey.
“This bursary keeps my father’s lifelong devotion to theatre alive by supporting the artists of tomorrow,” says Christy Eaglesham, David Leslie’s daughter. “Gregory Nyenhuis is a wonderfully deserving recipient, and our family is honored to support the next step of his journey.”
