Orders Open for Good Food Box as Grocery Costs Strain Grey Bruce Households
Residents can now place April orders for the Good Food Box, United Way’s low-cost produce program supporting food access across Grey and Bruce counties.
As grocery prices remain high across Ontario, the United Way of Bruce Grey is reminding residents that orders are now open for the April cycle of the Grey Bruce Good Food Box program.
The monthly initiative provides affordable fresh produce to households throughout the region. For $22, participants receive a box of 10 to 12 fruits and vegetables — produce that typically retails for over $40 — delivered through a network of local distribution sites.
The program is open to everyone in Grey and Bruce counties, with no eligibility requirements.
“Every week, more families are telling us they’re making tough choices—between paying for rent or buying groceries,” said Francesca Dobbyn, Executive Director of the United Way of Bruce Grey. “The Good Food Box is one way we can relieve that pressure, making sure people have access to good food without sacrificing other essentials.”
Boxes are available once a month and must be ordered in advance through participating community partners such as libraries, public health units, and family resource centres. The initiative sources produce in bulk to keep costs down, often selecting Ontario-grown items when possible to support local agriculture and reduce environmental impact.
With many families facing continued strain from inflation, the Good Food Box remains a practical tool for maintaining access to healthy food.
“Food should never be a luxury,” added Dobbyn. “We encourage people to place their orders early and to share the program with neighbours who might benefit.”
