One Person In Custody After Sauble Falls Shelter-In-Place, OPP Say
A shelter-in-place in Sauble Falls was lifted Saturday night, with OPP confirming Sunday that one person turned themselves in and is now in custody.
Grey Bruce OPP say one person is in custody following a shelter-in-place advisory in the Sauble Falls area Saturday evening, with additional details released to media the following morning.
Police say officers responded to a reported disturbance at a property on Rankin Bridge Road at approximately 5:30 p.m. on March 21 involving a potentially armed individual.
A shelter-in-place advisory was issued via social media at approximately 5:45 p.m., with residents in the area instructed to remain indoors, lock doors and windows, and avoid contact with the individual.
The shelter-in-place advisory was followed by a media release at approximately 6:20 p.m. At that time, OPP did not provide details about the nature of the disturbance, the type of weapon allegedly involved, or whether the individual had been identified.
At approximately 11:40 p.m., OPP lifted the shelter-in-place advisory, again via social media. No additional information was provided through the OPP’s media portal at that time about what had occurred or whether a suspect had been identified or located.
In an update released to media at approximately 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 22, OPP announced that a suspect had turned themselves in this morning and was taken into custody without incident.
OPP explained why the shelter-in-place had been called off late the previous night, stating, “After a thorough response and initial investigation, it was determined that the situation had stabilized and there was no immediate threat to public safety.”
Police also said no injuries were reported in connection with the initial disturbance.
OPP have not released the identity of the individual, confirmed the type of weapon involved, or indicated whether any charges have been laid.
The investigation remains ongoing, and OPP said they “would like to thank members of the public for their understanding and patience during the shelter-in-place advisory and investigation.”
