👋 Welcome to The Owen Sound Current, your source for what’s happening in and around Owen Sound. Community-contributed content is open to free subscribers, while full subscribers get premium content, curated news, local events, and commenting features in these weekday briefs. Thank you for supporting independent local journalism!

The 2nd Annual Owen Sound Witches Dance raised over $5,000 for The Women’s Centre Grey Bruce. Coffin Ridge Winery donated an additional $1,000 when the Witches visited their winery this weekend to entertain guests. As the first anniversary of The Owen Sound Current approaches, annual subscription renewals for our earliest readers have begun!

Annual subscribers will see your subscription automatically renew on the one-year anniversary of the date you subscribed.

You will receive an email reminder ahead of the payment processing and do not need to take any action to continue receiving full subscriber perks.

Maryann and I are pleased to share that while the costs of many things are rising, Owen Sound Current subscription rates are not increasing at this time.

One change of note involves our “Founding Member” subscription. As a Founding Member, you will have received an invitation to an in-person event – check your email and make sure you get in touch if you cannot find it.

There will only ever be one group of Founding Members, and we are eternally grateful for your support in helping get this community publication off the ground!

Going forward, our top-level subscribers will be renamed the Sustaining Supporters.

As part of this update, Sustaining Supporters and the Writers’ Fund will be combined. For full transparency, as Editor, I am paid a flat rate per subscriber whether their commitment is monthly, annually, or Founding/Sustaining. My pay does not increase with more Sustainers.

Instead, these funds are being reinvested in our community-supported content, and we hope to grow this program in 2025. Amplifying local voices is a big part of our mission, as is making sure The Owen Sound Current is sustainable, long-lasting, and representative of the diversity of our community.

Here’s how you can help:

  • As a Founding Member: your subscription will automatically renew as a Sustaining Supporter at the same rate unless you choose not to do so.

  • As a Subscriber: is independent local journalism and community connection important to you? Upgrade to a Sustaining Supporter subscription here.

  • As a Writer: Reach out! Email owensoundcurrenteditor@gmail.com and let’s talk about freelance or column opportunities.

  • As a Reader: Share the love! Tell a friend about us. Share articles you enjoy with your networks. Gift a subscription to someone you love this holiday season.

We recognize that financial support isn’t an option for everyone and want to express our sincere thanks to ALL subscribers – free, monthly, annual, Sustaining alike. Without you, The Owen Sound Current would not exist, and we appreciate your support in whatever way it is available for you to give.

Questions? Please respond to this email and I’ll do my best! We appreciate your patience with any unforeseen hiccups as we navigate our first annual renewals together.
