Our Midterm Update on City Councilâs Progress & Priorities is now underway, and we thank those community members who took the time to complete our initial survey this past week.
As we prepare our questions for City Council members, we can share a sneak peek at what close to 100 respondents told us they see as the greatest challenges facing our municipality:
According to this brief poll, âManaging budget constraints and financial planningâ and âAddressing housing affordability and availabilityâ weigh heavily on the minds of Owen Sounders, with 25.5% choosing each of these as the cityâs top challenge.
Behind that, we have:
Effective and open communication between Council and the community - 13.3%
Ensuring sustainable growth and protecting the environment - 10.2%
Keeping up with infrastructure needs - 7.1%
Respondents were able to write their own suggestions as to the biggest challenges facing our community, and among those, we see mentioned:
Illegal drug use in the community
Attracting doctors and nurses
Fixing the downtown âelephant in the roomâ
Cutting the art gallery budget
Traffic lights and turning lanes
Thank you again for participating! This will help us develop the most relevant questionnaire for your elected representatives. Weâll be back with plenty more community polls as our Midterm Report project continues.
