Today, we honour the service and sacrifice of Canada's veterans. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 invites the community to gather at the Owen Sound Cenotaph, across from the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library, for Remembrance Day events.

The parade will depart from the Royal Bank at 10:30 a.m., making its way to the Cenotaph for the 11 a.m. service.

Whether you join in person or observe from wherever you are, please pause for a moment of silence at 11 a.m. to recognize those who have served and continue to serve our nation.

According to the City, temporary road closures will occur in the River District from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 11:00 a.m. along 2nd Avenue East, 1st Avenue East, and 8th Street East.

Additionally, 8th Street West and 1st Avenue West will remain closed until noon for the memorial service. Businesses in the area will remain accessible to pedestrians during regular hours, with parking available in nearby municipal lots.

It’s a good idea to plan alternate routes and allow for extra travel time if passing through the area.

First, take a few moments with this column from our contributor Jen Shaw, who reflects on the sacrifices made by local soldiers and the lasting impact of their service:
