MS Chi-Cheemaun Adds Third Daily Sailing for 2025 Summer Season
Starting June 20, 2025, the MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry will offer three daily sailings between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island to meet increased seasonal demand.
The Owen Sound Transportation Company (OSTC) has announced that the MS Chi-Cheemaun ferry will return to a three-sailing-per-day schedule for the 2025 summer season, beginning June 20.
According to the OSTC, the expanded service is in response to heightened travel demand during peak tourism months and aims to improve travel flexibility between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island.
Running through October 26, 2025, the updated schedule includes three daily departures from both locations, offering travelers a range of options for day trips and extended stays.
The move aligns with OSTC’s broader efforts to support regional tourism and maintain reliable transportation links across Georgian Bay and Lake Huron.
The MS Chi-Cheemaun accommodates a wide variety of vehicles—including motorhomes, commercial vehicles, and bicycles—as well as walk-on passengers.
OSTC advises travelers to book in advance to secure their preferred sailing times. Fare details, sailing schedules, and reservation options are available at www.ontarioferries.com or by calling 1-800-265-3163.
Since entering service in 1974, the Chi-Cheemaun has completed over 24,000 voyages, transporting an estimated 10 million passengers and 3 million vehicles. It remains one of the most recognized ferries in Canada and a key link between the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island.
The OSTC, a provincial agency, operates four ships and manages multiple terminals across Ontario, supporting transportation and tourism infrastructure in remote and island communities.
