More Than 50 Names Set for Saugeen First Nation Council Ballot
Six candidates are nominated for chief and more than 50 for council in Saugeen First Nation's 2026 election. Candidate withdrawals close July 22.
Six candidates are nominated to run for chief of Saugeen First Nation, according to nomination results released by the community’s electoral officer.
They are Sonya Roote, Lester Anoquot, Conrad Ritchie, Steven Vanloffeld, Jaime Bricker and Natalka Pucan.
Conrad Ritchie is the First Nation’s current chief, according to Saugeen First Nation’s website.
A further 52 people were nominated for council. One — Calvin Root — has withdrawn, leaving 51 names as of the nomination list. That total may still change: candidates have until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, to remove their names by filing a withdrawal form.
Five of the six chief candidates — Anoquot, Ritchie, Vanloffeld, Bricker and Pucan — were also nominated for council.
Nominee packages were mailed July 18 from the post office in Southampton. Candidates who do not submit a withdrawal form or contact the electoral officer will appear on the ballot as listed on the membership roll.
The nomination results were issued by electoral officer Scott Jacobs. The document does not state a date for the vote.
Saugeen First Nation, together with the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation at Neyaashiinigmiing, forms the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
