It’s been a turbulent week for Grey Bruce Public Health, with Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer stepping in and assuming control of the board. Now, a local councillor has weighed in with her perspective — one that blends lived experience from 25 years as a public health nurse with her current role in municipal government.
Cathy Moore Coburn, councillor in Georgian Bluffs, writes that unresolved leadership and governance issues have left the health unit in a “tenuous and embarrassing position.”
She argues that simply being elected isn’t enough to qualify someone to sit on a board where the stakes are this high, and she welcomes the province’s move toward a skills-based model for selecting members.
Her letter is both a critique and a call to action: release the audit reports, bring more transparency, and put the right people in place to support the frontline workers who keep our communities safe and healthy.
Read on for news updates on CT scan services in Owen Sound, the upcoming Concours d’Elegance, Neyaashiinigmiing powwow, and more.
