Meaford Resident Arrested & Air Pistol Seized Following Foot Chase
Grey Bruce OPP have arrested a 34-year-old Meaford man in connection with multiple counterfeit currency offences and other criminal charges following an incident on June 21.
A 34-year-old Meaford resident has been arrested and charged in connection with an investigation into the possession and use of counterfeit currency, along with several other criminal offences, according to the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The arrest occurred on Saturday, June 21, 2025, around 12:15 p.m., during a routine bicycle patrol in downtown Meaford. Officers observed a man known to police riding a bicycle on the sidewalk along Nelson Street West.
When approached by officers, the man fled—first on his bicycle and then on foot—before being located and apprehended in a nearby wooded area.
During the arrest, police seized an air pistol.
Joseph Dunn, 34, of Meaford, faces several charges under the Criminal Code, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and obstructing a peace officer.
He is also charged with possessing counterfeit money on three occasions, possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000, possessing an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose, and uttering counterfeit money in two separate incidents.
Dunn has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing on June 24, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
