Local students made the news on CBC this weekend — but you wouldn’t know it if you rely on Facebook for your headlines.

One year after Meta blocked news content in response to the Online News Act, an independent study found that 75% of Canadians still didn’t know the ban exists, even though it’s had a measurable impact. Fewer people are consuming reliable news, and those who do are increasingly turning to less factual, more biased sources.

The result? Fewer informed citizens, and a greater risk of misinformation shaping public opinion.
