Today, a reader raises another question of identity—this time about what symbols we display in our public spaces.
In a letter to the editor, David Wonnacott asks City Council to reconsider the ongoing display of the American flag on municipal property, arguing that changing political realities make it no longer appropriate. Read his full letter below.
Letter: City Should Reconsider Displaying American Flag on Municipal Property
In happier times, this made sense as a gesture of cross-border friendship. But times change. The goodwill it celebrated is gone, and it is no longer appropriate. The American flag now represents a hostile country whose head of state aims to subjugate us coercively.
