Opinion: A Call for Collaboration, Not Competition

Community member Kelsey Starr offers a thoughtful response to recent concerns about the Tom Thomson Art Gallery’s reintroduction of art camps.

In her letter, Starr reflects on her own experience growing up in the region, defends the role of municipally-supported arts programming, and argues that both the Gallery and the Georgian Bay School of the Arts can thrive without being at odds.

Letter: GBArts and the Tom Thomson Art Gallery Need Not Be Competitive

After an extended pause, I was thrilled to see the return of art camps to the Tom Thomson Art Gallery this year. As someone who grew up just outside of Owen Sound, my fondness for the TOM is largely founded on the memories of attending camps and family activities like these as a kid. They fostered the spark of creativity that molded me into the artist I am today.

On the agenda: a deputation from the Festival of Northern Lights, a request to extend Voyago’s contract for the GOST bus, reports on 2024 Council and Committee/Board Attendance and Remuneration, City Hall illumination and flag flying requests, and more.
