Happy Friday, readers. Before we get to the news and what’s happening in and around Owen Sound this weekend, here’s a look back at our top stories from this week:
Next up… even in an area as rich in musical and cultural talent as ours undoubtedly is, JD Crosstown stands out.
The singer-songwriter, known for his blend of folk, blues, and country, first made waves through the Summerfolk Youth Discoveries program. Now, he’s gearing up for his biggest moment yet, as he prepares to release his debut album, Takin’ My Time, with a special show at Heartwood Hall on May 3.
We caught up with him to talk about the new album, his influences, and what’s next—including an upcoming tour across Europe:
From Summerfolk to Centre Stage: JD Crosstown’s Debut Album Drops May 3
Though his career is picking up speed and distance, Crosstown’s roots in the local music scene run deep. This talented young man of Cree and Ojibwe heritage was inspired by his father and uncle to pick up the guitar at just nine years old. He also counts local guitar legend Pete Devlin and singer-songwriter Morgan Barrie among his influences and mentors.
