Man Wanted in Fatal Hanover Hit-and-Run Found and Arrested
Man arrested in Walkerton in connection with the June 11 hit-and-run that killed 66-year-old Sheila Lamont in Hanover. He faces multiple charges including dangerous driving causing death.
Codie Bloom, 33, of no fixed address, has been arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 66-year-old Sheila Lamont in Hanover earlier this month.
Bloom was located and arrested without incident Thursday evening while walking along McNabb Street in Walkerton by officers from the South Bruce detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police. He had been the subject of a province-wide search since a warrant was issued last week.
The charges stem from a June 11 collision on 7th Avenue, near the entrance to Hanover Park, where Lamont was fatally struck by a red Chrysler PT Cruiser that fled the scene. She died later that day at Hanover and District Hospital.
The suspect vehicle was later found to have been destroyed by fire in a bush lot in the Municipality of Brockton and has since been examined by OPP forensic investigators.
Bloom appeared in court Friday morning and was remanded into custody on charges of Dangerous Driving Causing Death, Fail to Remain at a Collision Resulting in Death, and Arson. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 27 in Walkerton Bail Court.
In a statement issued Friday afternoon, Hanover Police Chief Christopher R. Knoll thanked members of the public who came forward with information, media outlets for helping disseminate details, and policing partners, including the Ontario Provincial Police, for their assistance in the investigation.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are continuing to gather information and ask that anyone with relevant details—particularly regarding Bloom’s movements on June 11 or since—contact Hanover Police at 519-364-2411 or Crime Stoppers of Grey Bruce at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
