Longest Day of the Year: Activities from Sunrise to Sunset in Owen Sound
From a Sunrise Ceremony at Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden at Nawash Park through ArtWalk 2025 and on to a Quiet Cafe and the Grey Bruce Pride Parade, June 21 has something for everyone.
After enduring relentless winter weather conditions resulting in an unprecedented 26 Snow Days, which shut the City down and escalated the challenges of providing food and shelter for many, Owen Sound has emerged to celebrate the Longest Day of the Year: Sunrise to Sunset on Saturday, June 21.
In a remarkable community collaboration of businesses, non-profits, galleries, guilds, and just about everyone else, Owen Sounders invite residents and visitors to join us.
At 5:30 a.m., there will be a Sunrise Ceremony at the Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden at Nawash Park in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day. In the Spirit of Reconciliation, the Garden is a contemplative place where our community can pause, reflect, and remember. Learn more: Gichi-Name Wiikwedong Reconciliation Garden | City of Owen Sound
At 8:00 a.m., the Owen Sound Farmers' Market opens featuring locally grown food, delicious cultural cuisine, and fine crafts. Established in 1852, the Market is a year-round gathering place on Saturday mornings. Learn more at: Fresh Local Food | Owen Sound Farmers Market | Owen Sound
From 10:00 to 3:00, the downtown will host ArtWalk 2025 with 13 arts-related galleries, guilds, and businesses showcasing art talks, exhibitions, demonstrations, and so much more. Visit all the venues and fill out a Passport for your chance to win the Big Prize valued at over $750. See more here: ARTWALK! 2025
Saturday, June 21 (10:00-4:00) is also Doors Open Owen Sound, a one-day program providing free access to more than 20 heritage venues in the City. Learn more at Doors Open Ontario - Owen Sound.
From 1:00 to 2:00, The Ginger Press will host a Quiet Cafe for those looking to enjoy a cup of tea and conversations with new and old friends, before heading out for the Next Big Thing. See more at The Ginger Press.
At 2:00, the Grey Bruce Pride Parade will liven up the downtown with floats, live music, and dancing, followed by the 9th Street Grey Bruce Pride Block Party. 9th Street East will be closed to traffic, and booths featuring information, food, and music will be set up to inform and entertain. The Block Party, involving several 9th Street businesses, will continue to 9:00, when several venues will remain open for partygoers. See more on Facebook.
All activities on the Longest Day in Owen Sound are free. Parking is free, too!
Intended to remind visitors about all the wonders of this community, the day has evolved into a spontaneous explosion of creativity and collaboration. Everyone is invited to join in the celebrations from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, June 21.
