Local Author Turns Blind, Deaf Puppy's Adventures Into Book with 82 Artists
Local author Amy Darrell to release 'Bumper: No Sight! No Sound! No Problem!' based on a real puppy's story, at a July 18 launch at The Ginger Press with autographed copies.

Local author Amy Darrell has self-published a children’s picture book based on the true story of a puppy born blind and deaf, and will launch it Saturday, July 18 at The Ginger Press in downtown Owen Sound.
The book, “Bumper,” takes its name from its subject, a real dog. Darrell’s telling follows a puppy that explores its surroundings through smell, curiosity and instinct rather than sight or hearing. It is written for children aged 5 to 9 and printed in full colour.
The illustrations come from 82 artists around the world. Darrell describes the book as a tribute to diversity and to the idea that every way of experiencing the world has value.
Bumper has a website, www.bumperluckdragon.com. Darrell says the dog has drawn interest internationally.
Darrell and Bumper will appear at the 1 p.m. launch. Autographed copies sell for $18.95 and can be reserved at 519-376-4233.
Disclosure: The Ginger Press publishes the Owen Sound Current.
