Letter: Beware Coyotes Around Unleashed Pets, Even In Town
A reader shares the recent loss of a neighbour's pet after it got off its leash and was chased by a coyote, warning of their presence even in town.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
To the Editor,
Last week, one of the dogs in our neighbourhood was killed by a coyote. This happened in the vicinity of Harrison Park near the trail that runs at the end of 1st Street West, going up to the cemetery.
The little dog got off its leash and went on a run, as many dogs do. The coyote chased and killed the dog.
I am writing with concern about dogs on that stretch going between the cemetery and the Park entrance. Another family member and I have seen a coyote on the trail twice in recent days; we live nearby.
I am not complaining about the coyote, but if a dog is running loose in this area, the coyote may chase, again, believing it is prey.
Another pet loss would be heartbreaking. Please be careful out there.
