Lane Reductions, Closure Planned as 9th Avenue East Work Resumes in Owen Sound
The City of Owen Sound is warning of traffic impacts as construction restarts on 9th Avenue East through fall 2026.

Drivers in Owen Sound can expect renewed construction activity on 9th Avenue East starting Monday, April 13, as the City moves ahead with the next phase of a major infrastructure project.
The City says work will take place between 6th Street East and Superior Street, with lane reductions in effect and Superior Street closed at 9th Avenue East for the duration of the project.
Motorists are being advised to plan for delays and allow extra travel time through the area.
What to Expect
Construction activity will include ongoing road work and restricted traffic flow along the corridor. The City is asking drivers to proceed with caution through the work zone.
There are no anticipated impacts to transit routes or bus stops, according to the notice.
The reconstruction work is expected to continue through to fall 2026.
The upcoming work follows a winter pause in construction on 9th Avenue East, part of a multi-phase rehabilitation project that began in July 2025.
The project covers the stretch of 9th Avenue East (Highway 6/10) between Superior Street and 10th Street East and includes:
Replacement of aging watermain and underground infrastructure
Road resurfacing
Sidewalk improvements
The project represents a significant infrastructure investment, with a total approved budget of $5.13 million, including $2.7 million from Ontario’s Connecting Link program.
For residents and commuters, however, the immediate impact will be renewed construction disruptions along one of the city’s main routes. The City says additional updates will be provided as work progresses.
