Resolved: Landline Interruptions Impacting 911 Calls: Owen Sound Police Issue Public Safety Notice
A Bell landline service disruption is impacting businesses, government agencies, and the 911 contact centre in Owen Sound.
Update: police report that this issue has been resolved.
Owen Sound Police Service have confirmed an issue some residents are noticing this morning: Bell landline customers in Owen Sound and the surrounding area are experiencing disruptions in service.
The police involvement is due to the impact this interruption in service is having on 911 calls.
OSPS released the following notice at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10:
BELL LANDLINE customers in Owen Sound and surrounding area may experience disruptions when calling 9-1-1 today. Bell is actively working to resolve the issue.
If you are unable to reach 9-1-1 from a landline, please use a cell phone. There is no impact to cellular service at this time.
We will share updates as they become available. Your safety remains our top priority.
Owen Sound Current can confirm that when attempting to phone landline numbers including local businesses and government agencies, the caller is notified: “2UT1: All circuits are busy. Please try your call again later.”
Despite these confirmed issues, the Outage Checker on Bell Canada’s website states at 10:43 a.m.: “No outage in your area.”
We will provide updates as they become available. In the meantime, use a cell phone to call 911 and be aware those with landlines may not be reachable at this time.
