Kincardine Resident Defrauded of $95,000 in Cryptocurrency Scam
South Bruce OPP are investigating after a Kincardine resident reported losing nearly $100,000 in a cryptocurrency scam involving an online trading site.
Police say a Kincardine resident has lost close to $100,000 in a cryptocurrency fraud that played out over several months.
On August 26, 2025, South Bruce OPP were called to a home in the municipality after the victim reported being unable to withdraw money from an online trading platform. By then, police say, the individual had transferred approximately $95,000 through a series of transactions.
Investigators say the victim had been in contact with a person linked to the trading site who repeatedly requested additional funds. The requests continued until the victim realized they could not access their money and contacted police.
The investigation has now been handed to the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit.
Police urge caution with digital investments
Police are reminding residents to exercise caution when approached with investment opportunities involving digital currency.
Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call South Bruce OPP at 1-888-310-1122. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure tip online at cstip.ca. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
