Welcome back, readers. We kick off this Monday morning with a thoughtful letter from a community member.
As Ontario expands alcohol sales into gas stations and more grocery stores, Jessica Graham asks: Why are the essentials being pushed aside and replaced with alcohol, where those in recovery (and their families) can’t avoid it?
Her personal and powerful letter challenges how we think about addiction, accessibility, and what our stores prioritize.
Letter: Why Is It Easier to Find Booze Than Butter?
I don’t know about you, but lately, when I’m wandering through our local grocery stores, searching for that one thing I need for dinner, I can’t help but notice how hard it’s become to find basic items. What used to be a simple errand now feels like a scavenger hunt. And I find myself wondering: is it because so much space is now devoted to wine, cider, beer, and other alcohol?
