Next, community member and experienced fundraiser Leigh Greaves proposes a creative solution to one issue that came up at last night’s Council meeting.

Council and staff discussed plans to hire a part-time, contract-based fundraiser. But as Greaves points out, there may be unintended consequences for throwing a taxpayer-funded staffer into the local donor pool to compete against other community organizations for limited funding.

It could serve everyone better, she suggests, to take a more collaborative approach:

TO THE EDITOR: As a longtime fundraiser and supporter of many local charities and deserving projects, the notion of the City of Owen Sound actively entering the local fundraising scene with taxpayer-funded staff is quite upsetting.
