Snowmageddon returns to Owen Sound.

The City of Owen Sound’s Public Budget Meeting is approaching on Monday, January 27, and we remain open to resident perspectives. In a follow-up to his letter on core infrastructure, David McLeish reminds community members the budget is not only about tax rates—we must consider the City’s debt, as well.

Letter: City's Debt an Important Aspect of Owen Sound Budget Talks

Owen Sound’s infrastructure (buildings, roads, pipes) has been chronically underfunded. In other words, the services we rely upon to deliver water, remove and treat our waste, drain stormwater, etc. have not been maintained. To address our infrastructure deficit Council needs to make some difficult decisions. One of those is to incur more debt.

  • Owen Sound’s Community Services Committee meets today at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. They will hear a deputation from Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival requesting a strategic partnership with the City of Owen Sound, a waiver of rental fees for Kelso Beach at Nawash Park, and a $10,000 grant under the City’s Grants to Community Groups Program.
