Intersections Wood Collaborative Celebrates Anniversary and Honours Community Supporters
Intersections Wood Collaborative celebrated its anniversary on April 8 with an appreciation event honouring volunteers, members, and the legacy of founder Stephen Hogbin.
On Tuesday, April 8, Intersections Wood Collaborative marked its anniversary with an evening of appreciation and reflection, celebrating the volunteers, members, instructors, and workshop participants who have contributed to its growth since its founding in 2022.
Held at the organization’s studio and gallery space in Owen Sound, the event welcomed approximately 40 attendees who shared conversations centred around woodworking, woodturning, and community engagement.
The event featured a special pop-up exhibition of works by the late Stephen Hogbin (1942–2022), the internationally acclaimed woodworker and artist who founded Intersections Wood Studio and Gallery.
Hogbin was a pioneer in contemporary woodturning and is remembered for his visionary approach to art, design, and environmental stewardship. His influence continues to shape the mission of Intersections, which he helped transition into a not-for-profit collaborative shortly before his passing. Formally incorporated on March 1, 2022, Intersections is guided by a volunteer board.

The organization offers a welcoming space for woodworkers of all levels and continues to operate using Hogbin’s original workshop and tools, alongside newer equipment acquired through donations and purchases. Workshops, open studio hours, and community events remain at the heart of its mission.
The board is currently recruiting new members—particularly individuals with experience in finance or volunteer coordination—and welcomes those with a passion for community and woodworking. Woodworking experience is not required to join.
Intersections Wood Collaborative is open to the public Tuesday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More information is available at www.intersectionswoodcollaborative.org.
