Group will host a virtual launch of its Regional Community Affordable Housing Action Plan on Wednesday, November 13, to address regional housing needs.
The Institute of Southern Georgian Bay will launch its Regional Community Affordable Housing Action Plan during a virtual event on Wednesday, November 13, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.
This event, free and open to the public, will introduce strategies developed over two years to help increase the supply of affordable housing in the region. Registration for the event can be completed through Eventbrite.
According to the group, the action plan is the result of extensive collaboration, including educational events, discussions with Canadian housing experts, and input from the local community, all aimed at creating a framework to address affordable housing needs in the area.
The event will be hosted by the Institute’s Social Finance & Affordable Housing Group, with contributions from key speakers in regional planning and housing development, including Liz Buckton, Senior Policy Planner for Grey County; Claire Dodds, Director of Planning and Development for Bruce County; and Carol Merton, Owen Sound Councillor.
Among the topics to be covered are regional approaches to scaling affordable housing initiatives, enhancing municipal support, and increasing resources for non-market housing providers. The plan also explores innovative methods, such as land trusts, cooperative housing models, and expanded access to capital for acquiring land and buildings suitable for affordable housing.
The Institute of Southern Georgian Bay, a nonprofit organization, works with business, government, and nonprofit leaders to develop sustainable solutions for the region’s challenges. This event aims to bring together stakeholders interested in fostering an equitable and resilient community through affordable housing initiatives.
