Highway 21 Closed Between Bruce Road 40 and Concession 2 After Fatal Crash
One person is dead after a head-on crash involving an SUV and pickup truck on Highway 21 south of Port Elgin. OPP continue to investigate as the road remains closed.
A head-on collision late this afternoon on Highway 21 south of Port Elgin has left one person dead and another in hospital, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Emergency crews were called to the scene at approximately 5:23 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, after a crash involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and a pickup truck.
Police say the driver of the SUV suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to hospital with injuries described as undetermined.
Road Closed for Several Hours
Highway 21 remains closed between Bruce Road 40 and Concession 2 as of Tuesday evening and is expected to stay closed for several hours while investigators examine the scene.
The closure was first announced by West Region OPP just before 7:45 p.m., with police later confirming the fatal outcome in an update shortly after 9 p.m.
Investigation Ongoing
South Bruce OPP, along with the West Region OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team, continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area to review dashcam or security footage that could assist investigators, particularly if it captured the collision or the vehicles involved.
OPP have not released the identity of the deceased.
No details have been provided about what led to the collision, and police have not said whether any charges are anticipated.
