Hanover Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Trafficking Charges, $30,000 Seizure
Hanover Police charged a 47-year-old Owen Sound man with trafficking cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine after a May 16 traffic stop on 12th Avenue.
A 47-year-old Owen Sound man faces drug trafficking and assault charges after a Hanover Police Service investigation that began with a report of a suspicious vehicle on 12th Avenue.
Hanover Police responded to the 100 block of 12th Avenue at approximately 7:19 p.m. on May 16, 2026, and located a man seated in the driver’s seat of a vehicle with the engine running, according to a media release issued May 20.
Police say the man failed to properly identify himself and became uncooperative. Officers report he resisted arrest, attempted to flee on foot, and assaulted officers before being taken into custody.
Police deployed a conducted energy weapon during the arrest. No serious injuries were reported.
A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up suspected fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine and hydromorphone pills, along with scales, Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia. Police estimate the street value of the seized drugs at over $30,000.
Darrell McLean, 47, of Owen Sound, has been charged with:
Driving while under suspension (x2)
Fail to identify to police officer
Obstruct peace officer
Resist peace officer
Assault a peace officer
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — cocaine
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — heroin
Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking — methamphetamine
Breach of recognizance
McLean was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
The charges have not been proven in court.
