Hanover Mom Wins SVCA Explore Contest as Conservation Authority Marks 75 Years
Madeleine from Hanover has won the SVCA’s Explore Saugeen Conservation contest as the organization marks its 75th anniversary with a public celebration July 29 in Formosa.

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) has announced the grand prize winner of its 2025 Explore Saugeen Conservation contest, launched earlier this year to encourage exploration of conservation areas across the watershed.
Madeleine, a resident of Hanover, was selected as the grand prize winner after visiting multiple SVCA properties with her children. “The kids and I had so much fun exploring new conservation areas that we haven’t had a chance to visit before,” she said.
To mark the SVCA’s 75th anniversary, the Explore program aimed to connect more residents and visitors with natural spaces throughout Bruce, Grey, Huron, Dufferin, and Wellington counties. Participants were encouraged to visit SVCA properties and document their experiences for a chance to win.
As grand prize winner, Madeleine will receive a prize package that includes:
A seven-night camping gift certificate
A selection of camping gear
A three-year SVCA membership pass
In celebration of its 75th year, the SVCA is also inviting the public to attend a community event at its administrative office in Formosa on Tuesday, July 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with formal remarks at 2:30 p.m.
The event will offer an opportunity for attendees to meet SVCA staff and board members, learn about the history and ongoing conservation efforts, and connect with community partners.
“This year marks 75 years of working together in the spirit of conservation of the Saugeen watershed,” said Erik Downing, SVCA General Manager/Secretary-Treasurer. “We’re proud of what’s been accomplished through strong local partnerships and community support. I invite everyone to join us in celebrating this milestone, to meet our staff, and to learn more about the conservation work that we do every day.”
The SVCA manages and protects thousands of hectares of conservation lands across the region, supporting environmental stewardship, water management, and public access to nature.
