Since the release of Gwen Lamont’s memoir The View From Coffin Ridge: A Childhood Exhumed, 23 events across Ontario have attracted over 1100 people.
On Thursday, January 22nd, the 24th author event gives members of Gwen’s home community an opportunity to experience what Maude Barlow describes as “the best book event I have ever attended. Gwen is pure gold… apart from her amazing story, she happens to be a very gifted writer.” The event is at the Rumpus Room in Owen Sound at 7 p.m.
Over 80 of those in attendance at past events were community guests representing municipal council, federal government, women’s shelters, youth support organizations, police and independent bookstores.
Community guests and others in attendance help Gwen achieve 3 of the goals for her book: empowering others to tell their stories, reminding people of the power of a caring adult to change a child’s life trajectory, and amplifying the conversation about intimate partner violence. Forty-one donations to community groups that support women, children and families have been made.
Although Gwen didn’t finish grade 9, today she holds four degrees. The research for her Master of Social Work thesis took her into prisons where she interviewed men who had killed their intimate partner.
Her research is on her website: gwenlamontauthor.ca
The $50 ticket, available on the author’s website, includes a signed copy of Gwen’s memoir, a bottle of “Into the Light White” wine from Coffin Ridge Winery, and the social time with food and beverages
The book is published by The Ginger Press and is available there, at Coffin Ridge Winery, and at 22 independent bookstores in Ontario, Nova Scotia, and British Columbia, as referenced on Gwen’s website.
