'Grey County Connection' Newsletter Aims to Bring Local Government Closer to Residents
Grey County has launched a new monthly email newsletter to share news, service updates, and council information directly with residents.
Grey County has launched a new public email newsletter designed to make it easier for residents to stay informed about local news, County services, and council decisions.
The first issue of The Grey County Connection went out to subscribers this week, marking the County’s first attempt at a broad monthly newsletter distributed to the public.
The County already manages several specialized mailing lists for areas such as long-term care, tourism, and economic development, and also publishes its ‘Council Meeting Highlights’ after each meeting to keep residents informed about key decisions.
The new newsletter builds on those efforts by offering a wider monthly snapshot of County activity.
“Our goal with the newsletter is to improve our reach to the community to help keep them informed of recent County news and decisions, to educate about services, and to share details about upcoming council meetings and engagement opportunities,” said Rob Hatten, the County’s communications manager.
The debut edition includes a range of updates: a feature on the new $2.4 million paramedic base in Durham, highlights from the Grey County Archives’ 25th anniversary, and a look at local climate action stories under the “Going Green in Grey” initiative. It also lists upcoming council meetings, community events, and opportunities to get involved.
Launching Grey County Connection was one of the goals in Grey County’s communications strategy, developed in response to public feedback showing many residents prefer receiving updates by email, Hatten explained. The newsletter will be sent early each month.
According to the County, about 52% of subscribers opened the first issue — roughly 6,500 people — suggesting strong early interest.
Anyone interested in subscribing can sign up on the County’s website at www.grey.ca, where the newsletter form appears on every page.
