Grey Bruce OPP laid 196 charges during a Canada Day safety campaign focused on speeding, impaired driving, and equipment compliance on roads and waterways from June 27 to July 6.
The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid 196 charges during its Canada Day traffic safety campaign, which ran from June 27 to July 6, 2025, targeting dangerous driving and safety equipment violations on roads and waterways across the region.
The ten-day initiative focused on high-risk behaviours commonly associated with increased collisions and injuries during holiday travel periods. According to police, the charges included:
139 speeding offences
33 seatbelt violations
13 impaired driving charges
8 stunt driving charges
3 charges related to personal flotation device (PFD) compliance
Police included a photo of a dashmount speed gun displaying a speed measured at 163 km/hr.
The campaign was part of a broader effort by the OPP to reduce preventable injuries and fatalities during the Canada Day long weekend.
Officers conducted increased patrols and enforcement throughout Grey and Bruce counties, with particular attention to speed, seatbelt use, impaired driving, and compliance with boating safety regulations.
"The Grey Bruce OPP remains firmly committed to public safety," police said in a statement accompanying the release of the campaign results. "Responsible driving and proper use of safety gear—both on the roads and in the water—can save lives."
Police continue to encourage the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
