Grey Bruce OPP Issue Road Safety Warning After Serious Motorcycle Collisions
Following two serious motorcycle crashes on June 23, the Grey Bruce OPP are urging motorists and riders to prioritize safety amid rising summer traffic volumes.
The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are urging increased caution on local roads after responding to two serious motorcycle collisions on Monday, June 23. Both incidents resulted in life-altering injuries and follow two recent fatal motorcycle crashes in the region.
Police have identified speed as a contributing factor in the earlier fatal incidents. With summer underway, the OPP notes a seasonal rise in traffic volumes and motorcycle activity, particularly with the influx of tourists and recreational riders.
“We are deeply concerned by the recent trend in serious and fatal collisions,” said Staff Sergeant Henry Thalen. “Speeding, aggressive driving, and inattention are putting lives at risk. We're asking everyone—whether you're behind the wheel or on two wheels—to slow down, stay alert, and share the road.”
The OPP is reminding drivers to obey posted speed limits, remain attentive, and watch for motorcycles, particularly at intersections and when changing lanes. Motorcyclists are urged to wear full protective gear, ride defensively, and ensure their vehicles are in good working condition.
Authorities also emphasized the importance of avoiding impaired driving, whether due to alcohol, drugs, or fatigue.
The Grey Bruce OPP said they will continue proactive patrols and traffic enforcement throughout the summer in an effort to reduce the risk of further collisions and ensure safer roadways for all users.
