Golf Croquet Coming to Owen Sound
Roselawn Bowling Club to host golf croquet open house on June 14.
On Saturday June 14th the Roselawn Bowling Club is hosting an open house to introduce the game of golf croquet to the club and the wider Owen Sound community. Canadian Golf Croquet champions Adam Barr and John Richardson will be on hand to offer instructions at this free event from 10am until 2pm.
All equipment is provided and participants are only asked to bring flat-soled shoes.
“Golf croquet is a great game that many lawn bowling clubs have adopted over the last few years”, said Roselawn President Lynn Beaton.
“We’re always looking for more ways to bring people to the club to socialize and play and we thought golf croquet would be a good fit. We’re especially lucky to have such qualified instructors out for our first event.”
Golf croquet is a little different than the backyard game that most people are used to. There are still balls, mallets, and hoops but in golf croquet teams of two race each other to be the first through each hoop on a preset seven-hoop course. When one hoop is scored, both teams move on to the next one. The first team to score four of the seven hoops wins.
“Being a lawn bowling club, we already have great greens for this kind of game. And we’re already a place where people come to play games that can be as casual or competitive as you want them to be. The point is to be outside, meet your neighbours, and have fun. We’re hoping to see a lot of people out to give it a try on the 14th”, Beaton added.
The addition of golf croquet to Roselawn’s summer schedule was made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation Grey Bruce and a donation from Croquet Canada. The materials were purchased from Oakley Woods Croquet, a Canadian manufacturer based in Brighton, Ontario.
More information about golf croquet and lawn bowling can be found on the club’s website at www.roselawnbowls.ca. The club is located at 1555, 5th Ave West in Owen Sound.
