“Owen Sounders know that the arts are extremely well served in the area. Every community in Grey, Bruce, and Simcoe is jam-packed with places to enjoy music, visual arts, theatre, and more.

But as a former poet laureate, I will be the first to tell you that there are somewhat fewer public outlets for the literary arts.

This has a lot to do with the fact that writing is a solitary pursuit, and perhaps also with the fact that readings are often seen as elitist, niche events. It’s a shame on both counts because when local writers get together, the energy can be electrifying, and the events are truly democratic.”
