Former Owen Sound Teacher Faces Trial in One Sexual Offences Case, Resolution Talks in Another
South Bruce Peninsula man Colin Correia, formerly a high school teacher in Owen Sound, faces two separate sexual offence cases in Ontario Court.

A former high school teacher charged in two separate sexual offence cases in 2025 is expected back in court next month, with one matter potentially headed toward resolution and the other moving closer to trial.
Colin Louis Correia, a technology teacher formerly listed on staff at St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound, appeared in Ontario Court of Justice proceedings this week through counsel in both cases.
None of the allegations against Correia have been proven in court.
In the first case, stemming from a May 9, 2025 arrest by the Owen Sound Police Service, defence lawyer Paul Socka appeared in Owen Sound criminal court on Thursday, April 23.
Correia is charged in that case with sexual assault and sexual exploitation. He is accused of sexually assaulting a young person between January and April 2025, and of inappropriately touching a young person for a sexual purpose while in a position of trust or authority.
Socka advised the court there is a potential resolution proposal under discussion. He requested additional time to review the proposal with his client and confirm instructions.
The matter was adjourned to May 14.
In a separate case, Correia was arrested by Ontario Provincial Police on Aug. 19, 2025 and charged in relation to allegations involving a different complainant.
He is charged in that matter with sexual assault and voyeurism.
Police allege the offences occurred in 2023 and 2024. The voyeurism charge alleges Correia surreptitiously observed or made a visual recording of a person in circumstances that gave rise to a reasonable expectation of privacy.
A publication ban under section 486.4 of the Criminal Code remains in effect in that case, prohibiting the publication of any information that could identify the complainant.
Correia’s counsel appeared in court via video on Tuesday, April 21. The defendant was not present.
The court heard the matter is now beyond the six-month mark and had recently gone through a judicial pre-trial, with the case likely headed to trial.
The presiding judge expressed concern about the age of the file, noting that if a trial date is not set at the next appearance, the matter may need to proceed to judge’s court.
The OPP-led sexual assault and voyeurism case returns to court on May 12 for the setting of a trial date.
He is also scheduled to return May 14 in the Owen Sound Police case to address a possible resolution or confirm October trial dates.
The Ontario College of Teachers added a notation to Correia’s public profile in June 2025 stating he had been charged by Owen Sound Police. Despite the notation, his OCT status continued to show as “in good standing” at the time of publication.
The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board previously notified St. Mary’s High School parents that an employee was facing criminal charges in an ongoing police investigation. On May 29, 2025, a representative for the board confirmed Correia had been placed on leave when the allegations surfaced, and said they were unable to comment further on an active criminal investigation.
When previously contacted by The Owen Sound Current, Correia said he had been advised by his lawyer not to comment.
Both matters remain before the courts.
