FlixBus Adds Stops in Sauble Beach, Southampton, and Port Elgin to Toronto–Owen Sound Route
Expanded service begins May 15, offering daily summer transit to popular Lake Huron destinations
FlixBus will extend its Toronto–Owen Sound route this summer to include three additional stops: Sauble Beach, Southampton, and Port Elgin. The seasonal expansion, announced May 12 by Flix North America, begins service on Wednesday, May 15.
The route extension adds direct bus access from Toronto Union Station and Pearson Airport to some of Ontario’s most visited summer towns on the Lake Huron shoreline.
The company confirmed the new segment will run daily, with stops also including Barrie, Wasaga Beach, Collingwood, Blue Mountain Village, Thornbury, Meaford, Owen Sound, and South Bruce Peninsula Visitor Centre.
The move marks a significant increase in intercity transportation options for the region. It is expected to benefit both local tourism and residents without access to personal vehicles.
The Flixbus website currently displays a route departing Owen Sound at 11:40 a.m. and arriving in Sauble Beach at 12:10 p.m., Southampton at 12:30 p.m., and Port Elgin at 12:40 p.m. seven days a week through summer.
It’s a quick turnaround for Port Elgin passengers, who depart on the eastbound return at 1:35 p.m. Southampton passengers depart at 1:45 p.m., and the Sauble Beach pick-up is at 2:05 p.m. All arrive back in Owen Sound at 2:35 p.m.
It doesn’t allow for a full day at the beach, but a passenger from Owen Sound could enjoy a 90-minute outing to Sauble, or find another ride one way and make a longer trip of it.
Ticket prices are currently $6.99 each way between Owen Sound and Sauble Beach, with a $3.99 service fee per website booking transaction, bringing the total for a round-trip ticket to $17.97 (current at time of publication and subject to change).
Given that the route begins and ends in Toronto, it may bring a greater volume of traffic north while also helping to reduce congestion on the roadways.
Sauble Beach Mayor Jay Kirkland welcomed the announcement, stating the expanded service offers “a safe and affordable travel option” that supports local businesses and residents.
Danielle Edwards, Manager of Economic Development and Corporate Communications, added that improved transit connectivity aligns with broader efforts to promote tourism and economic activity in the region.
FlixBus, a privately operated intercity bus service headquartered in Dallas, Texas, has rapidly expanded its Canadian network since launching in Ontario in 2022. The company offers reserved seating, free Wi-Fi, and power outlets on board.
Tickets for the seasonal extension are now available at flixbus.com and via the FlixBus mobile app.
