Fire Engulfs Vehicle in Hanover LCBO Parking Lot Saturday Afternoon
A car burned in the Hanover LCBO lot Saturday. Hanover Fire hasn't released a cause; here's what's confirmed and what's still unknown.
A vehicle burned in the parking lot of the Hanover LCBO on Saturday afternoon, sending thick black smoke over the area, according to photos and posts shared on social media.
Former Brockton mayor Charlie Bagnato posted the first image of the fire at 5:20 p.m., tagging the location as the Hanover LCBO. The photo, which Bagnato gave Owen Sound Current permission to publish, shows a car fully engulfed in flames, with heavy smoke rising above the lot and another vehicle visible through the smoke behind it.
As of Sunday, June 21, Hanover Fire and Emergency Services had not released an incident report detailing the cause, the number of vehicles involved or damaged, or whether anyone was injured.
Owen Sound Current has asked the fire service for those details and will update this story when they are available.
Some residents reported on social media that a window at the LCBO had been damaged, and others speculated about whether the vehicle was gas-powered or electric. Owen Sound Current has not confirmed either point and has asked the fire service to address both.
The fire prompted a separate community appeal. In a local lost-and-found group, a family reported that their 12-year-old German shepherd-Doberman mix ran off during the fire and headed toward the drive-in theatre.
The family later reported she had been found safe.

This account is based on social-media posts and firsthand photos published with the photographer’s permission. This article will be updated with Hanover Fire and Emergency Services’ official account of the incident once it becomes available.
Editor’s note: A previous version of this article incorrectly identified Charlie Bagnato as the former mayor of Hanover. He is a former mayor of neighbouring Brockton.
