Happy Family Day, Owen Sounders!
Banks, LCBO stores, most Beer Store locations, major grocery stores, shopping malls, schools, libraries, and provincial and municipal government offices will be closed today.
There are a few weather-related cancellations already at the time of publication, including the postponement of Bruce Peninsula Sportsmen’s Association Family Day events, which drew hundreds last year. Williamsford Curling Club’s Family Day events are also cancelled.
I hope these other events are still happening, but it’s best to check with organizers before heading out:
Family Day at the YMCA between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Entrance is free, and you’ll find today’s pool, gym, and fitness centre schedule on their website.
Black History Month Family Day Celebration at Grey Roots Museum with a fashion show, children’s gallery, Speaker’s Corner and more.
Now, before we get to the news, let’s take a quick look at our last reader poll.
On Friday, we asked you:
Eleven days out from the election (as of Sunday, Feb 16):
49% chose Selwyn Hicks, BGOS’s Liberal candidate
19% said Joel Loughead of the Green Party
18% went for Paul Vickers of the PCs
9% would vote for James Cameron Harris of the NDP
5% of the vote went to the remaining candidates
But it’s still early days, and more candidate events are coming up. See our Election Guide for dates and locations.
In the meantime, one reader shares her choice of candidate and rationale in a new letter to the editor:
Consider the Impact Our MPP Will Have on the Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound Riding
Against this backdrop of frustration, I am inspired by the potential to elect an MPP in Bruce Grey Owen Sound who can cut through partisan vitriol and advantage our riding. - Mary Anne Alton
