Eight Owen Sound Arts Groups Form New Alliance to Push for Sector Investment
A coalition of Owen Sound arts organizations has launched Arts Alliance Owen Sound. The effort is aimed at coordinated advocacy and shared resources for the local sector.

Eight non-profit arts organizations in Owen Sound have launched a new coalition, Arts Alliance Owen Sound, with the stated goal of coordinating advocacy and sharing resources across the local creative sector.
The founding members are the Artists Co-op, GB Arts, Georgian Bay Folk Society, Georgian Bay Symphony, Harmony Centre, Intersections Wood Collaborative, The Roxy Theatre, and Sweetwater Music Festival.
According to the Alliance, the group intends to push for increased investment in the arts, advocate for policies supporting cultural infrastructure, improve access to creative spaces, and raise the profile of local artists and organizations.
The coalition says it plans to work with municipal leaders, regional partners, and funders, though specific initiatives, funding targets, and a governance structure have not yet been made public.
“By coming together in a coordinated way, we can better advocate for the sector, support one another’s work, and ensure that the arts continue to thrive and grow in our community,” said Alan McIntosh, founder and general manager of GB Arts.
Harmony Centre’s Jeff Elie said the Alliance builds on existing collaboration between local groups. “Owen Sound has such a strong arts community because people genuinely work together,” he said. “The arts connect all kinds of people — artists, community groups, audiences — and the Arts Alliance now helps us build on that and get more done collectively.”
Jaret Koop, operations manager with the Georgian Bay Folk Society — the organization behind Summerfolk — framed the Alliance as a vehicle for pooling resources. “The Arts Alliance gives us a way to build on that strength while working more closely together, sharing resources, and supporting the artists and organizations that make this community so vibrant,” he said.
The Alliance has not yet announced its first formal initiative, advocacy campaign, or any meetings with the City of Owen Sound.
The coalition has launched a Facebook page to share community announcements.
