Driver and CMV Owner Charged in Fatal Dundalk Collision That Killed Two in January
Brampton driver and Bolton vehicle owner charged in fatal January crash near Dundalk that killed two Kitchener residents; OPP investigation results in multiple criminal and traffic offences.
A Brampton man is facing multiple criminal and provincial charges in connection with a fatal January crash near Dundalk that killed two people and seriously injured a third.
The owner of the commercial vehicle involved is also facing charges following the Grey Bruce OPP investigation.
Nirmal Kumar, 52, who was driving the commercial vehicle involved, has been charged with several offences under the Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act (HTA), including:
Two counts of Dangerous Operation Causing Death
One count of Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm
Driving a commercial vehicle with major and minor mechanical defects
Failing to complete and report required daily inspections
Operating a vehicle without a validated permit and with safety equipment violations
The commercial vehicle’s owner, a 41-year-old resident of Bolton, has also been charged under the HTA with:
Failing to ensure performance standards were met
Failing to ensure proper daily inspections were conducted and reported
The charges stem from a collision that occurred on January 27, 2025, at approximately 8:40 a.m., at the intersection of Grey Road 9 and Southgate Sideroad 71 in the Township of Southgate.
Kumar’s commercial vehicle collided with a passenger vehicle, resulting in the deaths of a 49-year-old and a 15-year-old, both from Kitchener. A 19-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
The names of the deceased have not been released, in accordance with the families' wishes.
Kumar is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on July 10, 2025. The vehicle owner is set to appear on July 14.
The Grey Bruce OPP continues to seek information related to the collision and is urging anyone with knowledge or dash camera footage from the area at the time to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
