As we bid farewell to 2024, Maryann Thomas and I want to take a moment to celebrate The Owen Sound Current’s milestones and achievements this year. Thanks to you—our dedicated supporters, readers and subscribers—we’ve had a year full of growth, connection, and community.
Here are a few highlights from 2024 we’re incredibly proud of:
🌟 Over 1,500 articles published to date, all available to full subscribers via our archive. From breaking news to in-depth features and letters to contributor columns, it’s been an honour to bring you the stories that matter most.
💌 Subscriber growth: Nearly 2,000 of you have opted to start your weekday mornings with The Owen Sound Current by email. Thank you for making us part of your routine! Email isn’t the only way people find our stories, of course; there are social shares and search results, and our articles are featured in Google News, as well. Which brings us to…
📈 Readership growth: At the start of the year, we saw about 1,500 reads per day. By year’s end, that number has consistently grown to over 5,500 every day we publish—and often even more when reporting on hot topics! In fact, our top story this year was read over 23,000 times. And this December, over 58,000 unique readers visited our website.
But the numbers aren’t the achievement we value most.
What truly inspires us is the connection and collaboration we see growing within our community.
Whether it’s through thoughtful comments, shared perspectives, or the important issues you’ve brought to our attention, it’s clear that Owen Sound and the surrounding region are filled with people who care deeply about staying informed and supporting one another.
An informed, engaged community is a stronger, more vibrant one—and we’re honoured to play a role in that.
As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to continue building on this momentum. We’re thrilled to welcome several new columnists to The Owen Sound Current in January, who will bring fresh perspectives and more local stories to our publication. Additionally, we’re hard at work on several ongoing stories that dive into the topics and challenges shaping our community.
Our commitment remains the same: to bring you stories that matter, to spark meaningful conversations, and to reflect the heart of Owen Sound and the people who make it special. Here’s to even more stories, conversations, and shared moments in 2025.
Thank you for being a part of The Owen Sound Current—your engagement is what makes all of this possible.
🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉
We’ll be back on Thursday with your next regular edition.
