The winter 2026 session of My Dad’s Group — a long-standing positive parenting program for men in Grey and Bruce counties — starts January 19th and some spaces are still available. The program offers two group locations, with meetings on Monday evenings in Owen Sound and Tuesday evenings in Hanover.
“January can be a time of new beginnings for people”, said Men’s Program Supervisor, Jon Farmer. “We’re encouraging any men who want 2026 to be a year of strengthening relationships with their children, their co-parents, and partners to join us for the next session of My Dad’s Group. It’s a chance to connect with other dads, deepening your learning, finding encouragement, and building positive patterns.”
My Dad’s Group was originally developed in Grey Bruce in the 1990s and has been running through the Men’s Program that time. It is offered in partnership with Bruce Grey Child and Family Services.
The group gives guys the chance to connect with other dads, learn more about their children’s needs through different ages and stages, and work on the skills they need to be effective parents and co-parents.
The eleven-session program runs weekly from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm; it is free, and dinner is provided. Gas cards are available to support attendance for men facing transportation challenges.
“It’s easy to find parenting advice online or on social media, but learning alongside other men increases connection and deepens understanding. There are so many challenges in contemporary parenting and our world at large that can make it hard to show up as the dads we want to be.”
“Our program explores real-life challenges and gives guys a chance to share solutions and support. We weren’t all given the male role models that we needed as kids, and My Dad’s Group is a chance to make sure that we can show up for our own children in the most supportive and healthiest way possible, even when times are tough,” Farmer added.
The Owen Sound group will start on January 19th, and the Hanover group will begin on January 20th.
Interested dads can register online at greybruce.cmha.ca/programs/my-dads-group/ or contact the Men’s Program at 519-372-2720 or via email at mp@cmhagb.org. Registration is on a first-come basis and spaces are limited.
