CMHA Grey Bruce Hosts Coffee Chat Ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day
CMHA Grey Bruce hosts a drop-in coffee chat Sept. 8 at Fresh Roots Café, offering mental health resources ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day.
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Grey Bruce is inviting residents to take part in an informal coffee chat at Fresh Roots Café on Monday, September 8.
The drop-in event runs from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the café on 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound. Organizers say it will be an opportunity for community members to learn about local mental health programs, access suicide prevention resources, and have open conversations about mental health.
World Suicide Prevention Day is marked each year on September 10 to raise awareness and encourage support for people living with suicidal thoughts. According to national statistics, about 4,500 Canadians die by suicide annually — an average of 12 lives lost each day.
“By talking about our mental health challenges, we can reduce stigma and create space for real care and support,” CMHA Grey Bruce stated in its event announcement.
Help is available for those in crisis. People in Canada can call or text 9-8-8 at any time for immediate support. Local mental health and addiction resources can also be found at mentalhealthgreybruce.ca.
