Chamber Sets October Dates for Owen Sound and Georgian Bluffs Candidate Meetings
Two opportunities for residents to hear from the people asking to represent you: October 6 in Owen Sound, October 8 in Georgian Bluffs.
Voters in Owen Sound and Georgian Bluffs will get a chance this fall to hear from the people asking to represent them. The Owen Sound & District Chamber of Commerce has set two all-candidates meetings for early October, ahead of the October 26 municipal election.
Owen Sound
Tuesday, October 6
Bayshore Community Centre
Time to be announced
Georgian Bluffs
Thursday, October 8
Canadian Reformed Church, Grey Road 18
Time to be announced
Start times, the moderator and the question format have not been set. The Chamber says it will send candidates formal invitations, participation guidelines and remaining event details after nominations close on August 21. That is also the point at which voters will know the full slate: under the Municipal Elections Act, nominations close at 2 p.m. that day, and clerks certify the ballot by 4 p.m. the following Monday.
Tiffany James, the Chamber’s CEO, said municipal councils make decisions affecting housing, infrastructure, economic development and local services, and that the meetings give voters a chance to hear from candidates directly.
Anyone planning to vote should also make sure they’re on the municipal voters’ list. Registration is handled by each municipality’s clerk, not by the Chamber, and can be checked through the City of Owen Sound and Township of Georgian Bluffs election pages.
Owen Sound Current will publish confirmed start times and format details once the Chamber releases them, along with candidate lists for both municipalities after nominations close.
