Careless Driving Charge & Licence Suspension After Crash Near Eugenia
A Grey Highlands driver was charged with careless driving and received a licence suspension after a crash on Blue Jay Crescent. No injuries reported.
A 40-year-old Grey Highlands resident is facing a careless driving charge and a three-day licence suspension following a single-vehicle crash on a rural road north of Markdale.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29, on Blue Jay Crescent — a rural road between Eugenia, Kimberley, and Markdale.
According to Grey Bruce OPP, the vehicle left the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck multiple trees. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, told officers they had swerved to avoid a dog before losing control. No injuries were reported.
Police charged the driver with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
A roadside breath test administered at the scene produced an “Alert” reading on a screening device, indicating a blood alcohol concentration between 0.05 and 0.079. As a result, the driver received an immediate three-day licence suspension under Ontario’s Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.
This is a standard consequence for a first-time “Alert” reading, which does not meet the criminal threshold for impaired driving but still triggers provincial penalties.
The OPP did not identify the type of vehicle involved or the extent of the damage, nor did they release the driver's name. Police also did not confirm whether speed or road conditions were contributing factors in the crash, or whether any witnesses were present to corroborate the driver’s account. There is no indication that the dog in question was located.
Police continue to encourage members of the public to report suspected impaired or dangerous driving. In emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency concerns, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
