Built to Lead Event Invites Young Women to Explore Skilled Trades at Sydenham Campus
Built to Lead returns April 29 in Owen Sound, offering young women hands-on opportunities to explore careers in the skilled trades.
Young women across Grey-Bruce and surrounding areas will have a chance to explore careers in the skilled trades later this month at a hands-on event in Owen Sound.
The Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII) is hosting its second Built to Lead event on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Grey County Sydenham Campus.
Open to students in Grades 7 through 12, the free evening event is designed to introduce participants to a wide range of skilled trades through demonstrations, conversations with local tradeswomen, and opportunities to learn about training and apprenticeship pathways.
More than 25 exhibitors are expected, representing fields such as welding, carpentry, electrical work, pipefitting, and more.
Hands-On Learning and Local Connections
The event will feature interactive stations where students can try out different skills, as well as opportunities to connect directly with people working in the trades locally.
Grey-Bruce Makers will offer hands-on activities in their space, and Georgian College will provide tours and information about its trades programs.
Organizers say the goal is to create a space where young women can explore options they may not otherwise encounter and make connections that could shape future career paths.
